Communities in the rural areas of the Sodo and Humbo region have developed the reforestation project hand in hand with international NGO World Vision. Participation and a hands-on approach of local people are the main drivers to guarantee the project’s success. People living in villages around the project area are directly responsible for the project’s implementation. The main focus is to protect the heavily degraded mountain forest and to plant new trees through a method named Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). This technique supports the ecosystem in the long-term and enhances forest and vegetation restoration throughout the region. The Sodo/Humbo project offers an outstanding example of partnership and community driven reforestation, providing significant social, biodiversity and carbon sequestration benefits.
